Heartgard Plus Green for Medium Dogs – For Dogs Weighing 12 – 22kg

Heartgard Plus is a meaty chewable treat that protects your dog from heartworm disease (Dirofilaria immitis) by eliminating the tissue stage of heartworm larvae. It will also treat and control roundworms and hookworms.

Heartworm infection is spread by mosquitoes; when the mosquito bites your pet, the larvae are injected and migrate to the heart and blood vessels of the lungs.

Over a period of months the larvae develop into adult worms that can reach up to 30cm in length. These worms essentially clog the blood vessels of the heart and lungs, leading to heart failure, respiratory disease, and ultimately death.

Treatment for heartworm disease is potentially dangerous and expensive so prevention is essential in at-risk areas.

Additional Information

Precautions: All dogs should be tested for existing heartworm infection before starting treatment with Heartgard Plus, which is not effective against adult D. immitis. Infected dogs must be treated to remove adult heartworms and larvae before initiating a program with Heartgard Plus.

Safety: Safe for use in puppies from 6 weeks of age, as well as pregnant and breeding female dogs.

Pets with an uncertain OR inconsistent history of heartworm prevention should be tested for heartworm infection before administering this product.  If your pet is currently infected with heartworm, a transient shock-like reaction can occur if this product is administered.
If your pet’s heartworm prevention has lapsed or you are unsure, consult your veterinarian for advice prior to using this product.
